From there, to here. Halloween bag process
Hey all!
A bit of a photo breakdown on how I went from sheet goods to finished bag taking second place from this cool competition!
Materials were a bit of an amalgamation, however the most fun was designing and tooling the strap with all the soulless that converted from a hand strap to a shoulder strap

Do you have the skull patterns anywhere? I wanted to take a stab at tooling something like this

Sad face! The best way that this bag shines is a video given that I used a colorshift leather..buut..lol
Leather: colorshift double faced leather, black interior and colorshift blue/purple/pink exterior
Hardware: antiqued brass
Veg tan: face and strap: 8oz veg tan, undyed.
faceplate and bones are painted with angelus white.

Very elaborate and detailed work! The eye-patch, the many skulls on the handle and the cool color-shift! Bravo! 🙂

One day I will be less frustrated and size it up to fit regular people 😂

Marching towards completion
Closer and closer for the comp bag, although I keep being drawn to my modded pattern design to have interchangeable fringe for the sides, still as a no sew..decisions decisions!

Pattern Revamp
Make it good, make it better.. constantly improve. This “used to be” the Janis bag style from Tandy, but the pattern itself made zero sense. Modified the fringe, modified the assembly process and made it significantly better.

Ooh love the red! I’ve also made the Janis bag, but the only modification I made was shortening the strap. What changes did you make to the fringe and other bits?

Ran across this website via threads and it got my curiosity. I’ve been a leather instructor for a number of years and in the field for about fifteen total, most recently dabbling in making acrylic templates and tools for myself, plus working with a tattooler. Keeping an eye out for the Halloween contest post, as that sounds like fun!
