  • Aviator Proof of Concept

So this was a proof of concept for a friend of mine. He goes to the gym a lot and wanted to have his gym membership card on his wallet. So we decided to add it to the back of the card pocket. I used a male end button snap to hold it in place.

  • Hi, still learning the craft. But loving the proces!

    • Looking forward to seeing your progress in the craft. 💖 If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out!

      • Welcome to the craft! It’s definitely a fun hobby (business) to have! Come back and share images of your work as you start to make them!

      • Ran across this website via threads and it got my curiosity. I’ve been a leather instructor for a number of years and in the field for about fifteen total, most recently dabbling in making acrylic templates and tools for myself, plus working with a tattooler. Keeping an eye out for the Halloween contest post, as that sounds like fun!

280 Cuts later… we’re on to the final stretch. Now comes the hard part, customizing, engraving, gluing, sanding, and finally stitching this project together. We’re making custom card holders for an event in NY.

        • That’s awesome! Do you have any tips on landing events like these? I’ve done one, but it was pretty much by luck.

        • Good to know! I’d love to land a large client or three in my area for some customized card wallets or similar. Is it a matter of just cold-contacting them, or did you network your way into those gigs?

Well… this experiment was a disaster lol the first part (the top) is what happens when the tension is off. The end is what it’s supposed to look like.

      • As much as I like laser cutters, it never fails that when you cutout the small stitch holes, whatever color thread you start with, it always comes out brown or black. This started tan and turned-out brown… 💀

        • A friend of mine used to wash the pieces with a saddle soap after laser cutting to get rid of burnt residue. Not sure if that’s a good idea though, as it strips the oils out of leather 😅

          • Every time you find something to speed up the process it always feels like it just adds time elsewhere!
