      • I’ve never had the guts to go to a market. I’ve been invited a few times, but I feel like I need to have a bunch of different items and selections. How does your market look like? Post pictures!! 😀

        • Here’s a photo! I tend to value negative space in my booth and limit my selection to bags, notebook covers, wallets, and belts. I actually feel like I have too much stuff–customers know I sell leather goods, but I haven’t niched down to become *the* person for handmade bags, for example.

          • The real trick, I think, is figuring out who your ideal customer is and then finding events that fit that description. In the early years of my business, I made whatever for anyone and kind of just winged it. I’m getting to the point now where I want to target women with expendable income, a classic sense of style, and a commitment to sustainability–the type of folks who want to buy once, buy well–and start tailoring my product lines to that specific demographic.

            • @bevel.leathercraft This looks rally cool! Yea, I kind of stuck to the small pieces. I tried my hand at a few purses, but the gussets never worked out for me, so I pulled away from it. They’re also very time consuming to get them right 🙁

            • I typically measure mine by punching the holes on the front panel, counting them, and then punching along the gusset leather until I have an identical number of stitching holes; I’ll then trim the short side of the gusset to length and write down the dimensions in the event I need them in the future.
