280 Cuts later… we’re on to the final stretch. Now comes the hard part, customizing, engraving, gluing, sanding, and finally stitching this project together. We’re making custom card holders for an event in NY.

      • That’s awesome! Do you have any tips on landing events like these? I’ve done one, but it was pretty much by luck.

        • @bevel.leathercraft There is always going to be an element of luck, that’s a necessity. But you also need to have a product that can be modified easily and can be thought as an add-on. So rather than making briefcases, you make small items that can be customized for a company. In my case is the aviator wallet (What you see at the top) we can change the front covers, stitch color, etc. with ease. And it also allows me to have some sort of area for a logo. THAT is what makes this work for most of the people who buy these from us. Once that’s done, then you need to sell it to people – actually show them what you have and the color combinations and how it can help them with some sort of event at their company.

        • Good to know! I’d love to land a large client or three in my area for some customized card wallets or similar. Is it a matter of just cold-contacting them, or did you network your way into those gigs?

          • @bevel.leathercraft A little of both. I own a marketing agency – so I tend to advertise on Instagram, Facebook, or Google Ads. But I also do reach out to people that I meet at the Chamber of Commerce and show them my stuff. If they say something like “Oh, that’s cool! I’d love to have something like that” I make them one with their logo and see if they’re open to having the product on consignment. I mostly do white label with the company logo, unless they want me to drop off my wallet and they host it on their shop.

            • @Shamus I dig it! Also, how cool that you own a marketing agency. Marketing knowledge is one of the areas I feel like I’m particularly lacking in when it comes to working on the business.

I also think it’d be neat to do some white-label work at some point–something that can go together quickly and have some decent profit margins. 😀
